Kalkaska-Trout Fishing Paradise

Kalkaska has a lot of untouched and undeveloped state land to explore with swamps dotting the landscape making it a hunters delight. Kalkaska and the surrounding area offer something for the fishing enthusiast as well. Big Guernsey Lake, Log Lake, Bear and Twin Lakes are plentiful in rainbow and brown trout fishing.  Elk Lake and the iconic Torch Lake are well knowns for lake trout and huge smallmouth bass during the summer months. Lake Skegemog is known for muskie, large and smallmouth bass, perch, and pike. Just a tad further north and fishermen will find the Chain Of Lakes where the range of offerings is quite varied.

What most who have never visited this area don’t realize is this is truly a fisherman’s delight with every fish available in these lakes and some of the most scenic places to enjoy a day on the water.

Kalkaska sports a huge trout fountain in the downtown area boasting of its superior trout fishing and celebrating the love of the great outdoors and a good day’s fishing enjoyed by many who live in this outdoorsman’s dream location. They celebrate this remarkable community asset each year with the National Trout Festival.
